C4RD presents an exhibition of recent work by Atlanta based artist
Deanna Sirlin. Collected internationally, she has exhibited variously
at the High Museum, Ca' Foscari Venezia, Shenzhen Biennial, the New
Orleans Triennial, Kunsthaus Nürnberg, Turkey’s Antalya Cultural
Center amongst others and has been formerly resident at Yaddo.
“The search for self in one’s own art is particularly interesting to
me as a drawing problem. One might think of drawing as one of the
most immediate of mediums because the connection between the artist’s
hand and the line is so direct. The most natural movement for me to
make with my hand seems to be circular: round, eclipsed, eyeballed,
planetary, mouthed with teeth, and molecular. I also find myself
moving in circles: on an airplane waiting to land; the path I walk
twice a day around my pasture; the stroke my arms make while I swim
in a pool of cold, deep blue water.”

Accompanying the exhibition will be an essay by Sandi Toksvig, one of
Britain’s favourite author, comedian, and broadcasters.
C4RD’s purpose is to make space for drawing. It seeks to maintain the
visibility of a characteristically humanist mode of creativity; to
explore the boundaries of the medium of drawing; and to facilitate
access and discussion for current drawing practice independent of
structural forces in commercial and educational settings. C4RD
provides a web service and an independent non-commercial exhibition
space in London dedicated to the exhibition of recent drawing, and is
not aligned with any educational or museum institution. C4RD seeks to
present a balanced programme, and welcome submissions from those with
a particular interest in drawing as a core experience from within and
outside the arts.
C4RD is at 63 Cudworth St, Bethnal Green E1 5QU (a three minute walk
from Bethnal Green tube or East from Bethnal Green rail) and is open
Wednesday to Friday 12.30 – 5.30pm. We hope to see you at the private
view for this exhibition 5-8pm Monday October 9th 2006, or during the
exhibition from 9th - 27th october 2006. For further information
please view the website www.c4rd.org.uk or telephone 020 78717367.
