Hi Janette!
Here you go! Hope these are helpfull - all on my bookshelf and a pretty
representitive and up-to-date range of what's available here (see
attachment).
You may just be interested in our website too.We have started the
international Children's Mathematics Network. Although we started from the
mathematical graphics, we explore all sorts of related aspects of visual
representation and early childhood.
Our blurb on the website describers the network as:
...'an international, non-profit-making organisation for
teachers, practitioners, students, researchers and teacher educators working
with children in the birth - 8
year age range. It is a grassroots network, with children and teachers at
the heart of it.
The Network focuses on children's mathematical graphics and the
meanings children make. You will be able to explore 'written' mathematics
within the context of visual representation including drawing; early
(emergent) writing; schemas; play; creativity and multi-modal learning. Our
work is based on extensive, evidence-based research with children, teachers
and families and within the context of nurseries and schools. We advocate a
spirit of freedom and creativity for teachers and more importantly, the
freedom for children to explore their own meanings in creative ways. Our aim
is to hear the voice of the child.'
I'd be interested to know about your interests / research in children's art!
I've taught 3-8 year olds for most of my career and now focus on research
and writing (I've included my own book on the list).
Much enjoy the Drawing Research discussions too - and nice to have 'met'
you: do let me know if I can be of any help!
All the best!
