We are pleased to announce that the following dataset is now available:
CRDA/69: English Sites Database (Final database March 2005)
The English Sites database was managed by English Partnerships as
an interactive database of strategic sites in England covering the
period 2000 - 2005. As a key government initiative which took the
form of an internet-based property resource, this dataset originally
comprised a web front-end (englishsites.com), that allowed information
about development sites for sale to be publicised by public sector
organisations. Through this dataset, thousands of registered users
were able to access key information on strategic land sites throughout
the English regions. The dataset comprises details of land, locations,
property and facilities available.
Also known as the English Partnerships property site database
(formerly Strategic Sites Database), this dataset held information
on more than 200 key sites and links to partner Regional Development
Agencies (RDAs). The database was updated quarterly and registered
users were alerted as new sites came on to the market. The sites
were chosen for their suitability as a development opportunity and
for companies wishing to relocate or expand.
The English Sites database was first designed in 1998 with the core
aim of attracting inward investment in support of the Government's
wider regeneration objectives. At the time, it was created to
fill a gap in the property/development/relocation market and was
intended to be the first sole source of information for prospective
developers/occupiers/intermediaries, detailing large development sites
available in England. As a single up-to-date portal or information
service for companies, this database therefore became an historic
government mechanism for delivering services electronically.
Internet-based property resources such as English Sites have played
a vital role in disseminating key information aiding the delivery of
wider government objectives in support of high-quality sustainable
growth in the English regions ie as outlined in the Government's
Sustainable Communities Plan (2003). This dataset also specifically
sought to provide landowners with a new way of marketing their sites
nationally or internationally.
By the time of the launch of the new 'englishsites.com' website in
January 2001, the database included over 3,600 registered users -
primarily property agents, consultants, local authorities, potential
end users, developers and investors.
The dataset and documentation are open to the public without
restriction.
