Call for papers:
Archaeology in the Community
Institute of Archaeology, UCL
10-11 June, 2006
The aim of this conference is to provide a forum
for the discussion of community based archaeology
in the UK, examining the themes and strategies
that are central to its development. This will
include discussion of the origins and growth of
community archaeology and an analysis of its
current state. Most importantly it will promote
discussion of the future for community
archaeology, including new opportunities for
funding. The proceedings will be published in book form.
Proposed sessions will include:
. The Development and Nature of Community Archaeology
. Sources of Community Archaeology
. Reaching Different Communities
. Archiving and Publication
. Communication, Presentation and the Media
. Education and Community Archaeology
. Strategies for Progress
Submissions of abstracts of c. 300 words are
invited, indicating which session the paper is
aimed at. The deadline for submission is the
15th of February. Papers should be a maximum of
4000 words, and be prepared according to
publishing conventions (see
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/archaeology/pia/notes_for_contributors.html),
with first drafts to be submitted one week before
the conference; and in the form of 15 minute
conference presentations using PowerPoint or slides.
