Yes we have conducted this sort of exercise in the past with some of
our medical students prior to their resit exam (which is delivered
online). We invite the students to attend 2 one hour workshops. During
the first session we have a discussion about question design and exam
techniques and then ask them to participate in an exercise to create a
bank of questions to aid their revision. Each student is asked to
research and prepare a minimum of 4 questions (including feedback) on a
topic area which they feel they could improve on. We give the students
a handout outlining the format they should prepare the questions in and
during the second session we ask them to come to an IT Suite to type
their questions into Word documents then submit them online.
Using QML question templates available
at:http://www.dundee.ac.uk/learning/dol/templates.htm we then input the
questions, turn them into a Questionmark Perception assessment (takes
about an hour) and ask a subject expert to root out any problem
questions. We then make the assessment available for the students to
complete online as many times as they wish.
We have run this exercise three times in the last two years and each
time it has proven very popular with the students who enjoyed adopting a
different approach to their revision. The academics involved in peer
reviewing the questions are also often impressed by the standard of
question that the students set.

Hi all
Does anyone have, or know of, instances of students being asked to
write
their own objective tests (probably multi-choice) for delivery via an
online assessment engine?
I'd be particularly interested in finding about mechanisms/processes
which
allow students to write questions which are then presented to, and
accepted/rejected by, a member of staff (or peer group) before being
automatically exported to an online assessment engine.
