THE SEMINARS

e-Portfolios
DATE: Wednesday 1st March
OVERVIEW: This popular topic is being revisited to look at progress in the
light of the last year. There is particular reference to assessment through
e-portfolio, for example the Edexcel DiDA qualification and the powerful
support for e-portfolios evident in the DfES's strategy Harnessing Learning.
Netmedia Education and Edexcel will relate their DiDA and e-portfolio
assessment experiences and the University of Wolverhampton will discuss the
use of their system as a lifelong personal learning space.

What makes e-Learning effective for different sectors?
DATE: Wednesday 22nd March
OVERVIEW: The day will examine the criteria for success in e-Learning both
within and across sectors, covering pre- and post-16 education, public and
commercial environments.

3D Gaming in Education
DATE: Wednesday 26th April
OVERVIEW: The use of 3D gaming within the education sector is proving an
increasingly effective educational tool, especially with the improved use of
technologies. This seminar will feature presentations from two companies at
the forefront of educational gaming: Caspian Learning and Immersive
Education, and will include opportunities to trial their products.

VLE's and beyond - what does personalised learning really mean?
DATE: Wednesday 3rd May
OVERVIEW: This seminar will focus on definitions of what personalisation
means in terms of learning styles, the role of technology to enable these,
and best fit between the two. Our three presenters will approach this topic
from their individual standpoints, starting with VLE's as a reference point
for examination of the central concepts.

e-Assessment
DATE: Wednesday 24th May
OVERVIEW: With this topic high on the Government agenda, it is another
popular area to revisit to discuss the past year's developments. Building on
these, the presenters will assess the significance of outcomes and the
likely impact they will have on approaches to e-Learning.

Proprietary versus Open Source Learning Environments: Pro's and Con's
DATE: Wednesday 14th June
OVERVIEW: With open source solution, Moodle, steadily gaining market share,
we will examine the advantages and disadvantages of both open source and
leading proprietary learning environments. This seminar promises to spark
lively debate - not one to be missed!
