Creativity or Conformity?
Building Cultures of Creativity in Higher Education An international,
interdisciplinary conference
University of Wales Institute
Cardiff, Wales, UK
January 8-10 2007
CALL FOR PAPERS
Cardiff School of Art & Design at UWIC, in collaboration with the HE
Academy Imaginative Curriculum project, is convening a major three day
international conference for FE and HE educators, managers and
policy-makers.
Structure of the conference
The conference will take place over three days. Much of it will be given
over to structured/chaired debate, sharing of best practice, and
creative problem-solving sessions. There will be five keynote
presentations of 40 minutes each (with discussion) and thirty other
paper presentations of 20 minutes each (with discussion). There will
also be tabled papers for distribution at conference and posting on the
conference website.
Themes
The title 'Creativity or Conformity?' highlights perceived tensions
between the learning environment required to promote creativity and
current economic, legislative, and pedagogic imperatives. The conference
will provide a unique opportunity for those involved in higher education
to discuss this issue, share best-practice and, potentially, influence
policy.
It will also be an important step towards establishing an active network
for all, whatever their discipline, for whom promoting creativity is a
primary concern.
Papers will be presented on the following themes:
1. Educating for Creativity: pedagogic, organisational and
administrative innovations, ways of overcoming barriers, disciplinary
and inter-disciplinary perspectives and practices, personal development
planning, action research projects, e-learning, problem-based learning,
assessment and evaluation, new technology and creativity in HE.
2. Creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, academia and industry,
government initiatives, creativity and the economy, professional
practice, sustainability and development, ethics.

It is intended to post all abstracts and papers on the conference
website and publish an edited selection of the papers in a peer-reviewed
journal.
