You are invited to collaborate in a European application for the
funding of a series of Marie Curie Conferences and Training Courses.

This is a call under the EU 6th Framework programme:
http://fp6.cordis.lu/index.cfm?
fuseaction=UserSite.FP6DetailsCallPage&call_id=250

This is an application for a four-year pan-European project that will
propose a series of conferences and training events in many aspects of
colour. It is intended there will be a series of themed conferences,
that will bring together a research community to share and discuss
theoretical and practical issues. Each conference will combine key-note
invited speakers, lectures and courses, and work in progress from
researchers who are in the early stages of their career.

The name of the group is CREATE (Colour Research for European Advanced
Technology Employment). Since receiving a high score in the last
funding round (2005), we are in the process of responding to the
recommendations and improving the direction and management of the
project. The EU experts described our last application as “A good
proposal about a topic of high technological and cultural importance.
The science of colour is multidisciplinary, which highlights the need
for an integrating set of conferences”.
and its impact on the wider community:
The proposal concerns several thematic areas of the FP6, as it
represents a research topic in fields of significant relevance of
European policy such as transport, the environment, cultural heritage,
security, health and the i2010 initiative. The project brings together
a good and complementary set of organisations from different locations
in the EU and with a broad background that is unlikely to exist only on
a national level. The series is certainly relevant for the aims of the
objectives of the MC action. This is one of the few projects that could
have a direct impact on furthering the competitiveness of SMEs and also
on strengthening industry.

What are MARIE CURIE ACTIONS?
The goals of the Marie Curie Conferences and Training Courses (SCF) are
intended firstly (and importantly), to provide expertise to researchers
who are beginning their research career (1-10 years) and would benefit
from your expertise (NB researchers whose career exceeds 10 years can
also benefit from this training).

Secondly, the intention is to create and forge a network of researchers
and experts of all abilities to exchange, develop and collaborate on
ideas with the objective to improve economic growth in Europe. In order
to do this the group must include those working in industry and
commerce…

The objective, therefore is to develop an international
cross-disciplinary network working with the arts, commerce, science and
technology to share both practical and theoretical knowledge, comparing
existing models, fostering novel ideas, and facilitating dissemination
through papers, poster presentations, workshops and publications. This
network intends to investigate innovative interdisciplinary
applications that are known models from one particular field of
expertise, that can be transferred to other areas giving rise to new
ways of applying existing technology.

How you can participate
This invitation is a call for experts who work or research in fields
relating to colour: research institutes, universities, international
organisations, SME’s, industrial/commercial firms, museums, social and
cultural environments, education, government (this list is by no means
complete) who are interested in collaborating and contributing to the
series of events.

This can be done by:
- presenting a lecture
- presenting a practical course
- provide mentoring to researchers

If interested, please could you reply stating your:
Name
Affiliation
Area of expertise (keywords)

How you would like to contribute:
Lecture
Practical course
Mentoring

Short biog 50-100 words
CV with list of publications

What can the Marie Curie Conferences and Training Courses can do for
you?
By becoming a member of a pan-European network, it is intended through
the conferences and training courses, members will benefit from:
•	the exchange and dissemination of knowledge through interdisciplinary
conferences;
•	to enable the member to not only develop links outside their own
research centre but to create an international and cross disciplinary
dialogue;
•	to facilitate the dissemination of cutting-edge research to the
artistic, commercial and industrial sector and improve economic growth
through new collaboration and knowledge transfer;
•	to establish and improve co-operation in research and training
between research institutes;
•	to spread existing technology, novel concepts and models to different
disciplines;
•	to develop and foster a robust research network that will thrive
beyond the time-frame of the funding program;
•	to integrate independent research experts who are outside the core
group of participants, in order to enlarge and advance the research
network;
•	to identify new research and application directions through the
merging of interdisciplinary working practices.

An early response with your details would be very much appreciated - at
least by the end of March 2006

Deadline for final application to EU is 17th May 2006

Please do forward this to colleagues and do contact me if you have any
enquiries.

with regards
Carinna Parraman
