Hi Trevor,
I liked the poem & I wonder, where was the description of the scroll? was it
in a catalogue or something?
The tone produced seems in reverse to the more familiar one of a european
poet writing *about Chinese art and culture, because here an artifact is
sort of writing itself towards us.

>Spring Comes
>
>past scope of silk
>stirrup and bow
>undergo refinement
>as incoherence
>regulates the sands
>
>Scene vividly displays, in a mild transform of the received,
>Flowering branches penetrate throughout the ancient yet intact.
>Courts and corridors, row on row, are solemn, majestic and impressive,
>Green tiles load the eaves, terraced pavilions cancel curious eyes.
>
>Conserved together, one hundred and nine people appearing lifelike,
>At different ages have distinguished identities, tics, composures;
>Gestures and actions are varied, whether at flowers or holding things;
>Laughter at birds' play by the veranda, then haste smart coach to the
>midyard.
>
>Consorts are ensembling the bamboo flute, drum, pipe and chime stone;
>Engrossed at chess some ponder, while others more at ease are dressing;
>Some enjoy fish, tease parrots, paint long recessions of unbolted doors;
>Harness and armour glint at the gate, generals bow, reign in their hearts.
>
>Varied posture and colour of the imperial concubines
>In bright peaceful and happy deluxe like we like;
>Luminosity so intense night will plunder,
>Awkward dark stranger, uncouth invader. Mercy!
>
>Clustered peonies, towering pines, peacocks in glorious exhibition
>And red-crowned crane shouting at each other;
>Purple camel-humps seethe agreeably in viridian glaze;
>All is blended, and implied meanings are deep, implicit and rather
>fascinating.
>
>Composition is exquisite, layout clearly demarcated.
>It gives a splendid scene of the gentle people echoing and clustering.
>The plot of false or true, moving or still, has been organically linked.
>Truly monstrates natural interaction, is worth seeing a hundred times.
