I'm sure I just read a discussion like this on this list recently, but I
can't find it now.
Here at York we use clustered web servers, a single Oracle database
server (with warm standby) - all UNIX - and a SAN. I know many others
use a SAN as a perfectly standard deployment option that Blackboard
fully supports.
We haven't tried running Blackboard using VMWare, though I'll bet we'll
want to soon. Perhaps their hesitancy about supporting a SAN for you
arises from its use combination with VMWare, or SQL Server, or both...
