The AS 3000 and 4000 are footswitches that work with several of the Olympus
recorders such as the DS4000
http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/2578_DS-4000.htm.
The DS4000 comes with the DSS software and is one of the few recorders you
can use directly into Dragon Naturally Speaking. It can produce very
accurate results once trained to a user's voice plus the vocab builder
(using text files already available with the user's type of writing i.e.
reports or essays etc).
In a debate last week we wondered whether one had to set up a user profile
for the headset and then one for the transcriptions from the recorder and
one from the recorder as a microphone, to get the best results. It did not
seem to make much difference and as the transcriptions can only be corrected
after the event it maybe one can get away with a single profile or at the
worst, two with the second one being for the recorder used directly with the
USB connection as a microphone.
You used to be able to use some other cheaper Olympus recorders directly as
a microphone but these seem to have disappeared from the market. If you
are using medical and legal terminology, there are versions of Dragon that
have a larger vocab related to the specific subjects
Do hope this helps.

Subject: Digital Transcribers
Dear All,
Has anyone had any experience of using digital transcribers such as the
Olympus AS-4000. I am concerned that the recognition accuracy may not be
good. When using Dragon Naturally Speaking the user has immediate feedback
on the screen so they know if they are speaking clearly or not and whether
the voice recognition is working, so they can make adjustments accordingly.
I am concerned that without this feedback much of what users say is likely
not be interpreted by the recognition software - any thoughts?
Also, what is the speech recognition engine like on this device - is it as
good as Dragon?
Thanks
