The URL you mentioned did not seem to work but it was a maintenance day on
Iansyst's website. However, the article that Abi James and I wrote on the
subject called "The Accuracy of Electronic Spell Checkers for Dyslexic
Learners" has a table for comparing the various hand helds. There was a
huge difference in results and the smaller the vocabulary the more likely
they seemed to find the appropriate word. So the Literacy Word Bank for
primary schools did rather well but looks childish. The Merriam Webster
Collegiate came in near the top despite the screen being full of words and
not the clearest of type. It is better than the usual DMQ 450 that most
students tend to receive when it comes to correction rate.
I know we shall be looking at a new bunch in the New Year so hopefully it
will all be updated!
Best Wishes E.A.

Subject: Portable Spell Checkers
Dear All,
Has anyone any thoughts as to the relative merits of different kinds of
portable spell checkers for Higher Education students with SpLDs. Below is
a URL for the selection from Iansyst.
