Yes, duplication is pointless and encourages cliques. But then, maybe we
are a clique?
I think we can only overcome this by PUBLISHING information - hence the wiki
(www.assistech.org.uk) - which is allows you to publish stuff easily and
builds up a knowledge (/evidence) base rather than a more transient form
like a mailing list (which in a sense encourages cliques). That's also why
I don't think another list 'challenges' the WIKI, I think the lack of
momentum to share knowledge and make the field more accessible challenges
it.
That said, i'll be adding loads to the WIKI in the next month (and might
make the structure simpler and documentation better), since I have loads in
my head to get out from this summer - so perhaps people will start to see
how it can be used...

Like Keren, I wouldn't want to discourage enthusiasm but ...
... I have just come into the office from a National Library for Health
Service Users Focus Group and one of the problems with accessing info that
everyone mentioned was the plethora of different (or overlapping)
information sources.
For the area that Assistech covers, there is AssisTech itself plus other
related, specialist lists as well as more general resources like the
Knowledge Exchange http://www.theknowledgexchange.co.uk/
The NHS AHP Network has also just been launched
http://www.networks.nhs.uk/networks/page/434
As far as the new JisC list is concerned, my first thought was not that
there would be an overlap with FAST but rather with the AssisTech wiki.
Sorry to sound discouraging, but I also wonder if it would help or hinder
to have another, similar list?
Best wishes,
