Subject: Web accessibility project
Hi Aidan
Thanks for offering to help. As i mentioned we are currently looking
for a person using Dragon Naturally Speaking or similar voice
recognition software to interact with the internet. We are also looking
for someone with motor difficulties who experiences trouble with fine
mouse control.
Each participant will be paid £40-£70 depending on whether we need to
book them for one session or two sessions, and will be refunded any
travel expenses they may incur. Each session will last approximately 2
hours and will ideally take place during July 2006.
Participants will take part in the study on a one-by-one basis: the
participant will work with Designed for All staff to do a series of
tasks (e.g. register with the website) and then answer a set of
questions
about their experience. The study can be conducted in the user's home,
workplace, or at our offices in London or York.
Naturally, we'd be delighted to have your support in this very
interesting project which we really believe will widen access to the
internet. If you know any people who match the profiles above and maybe
interested in taking part please contact me at

** Further background to the project
The UfI (University for Industry) is funded by the DfES and is
responsible for the UK Online network; one of its remits is to enhance
access to the Internet to socially excluded and disabled people. To
this end, they have developed a web-based application that provides a
simple email tool and access to a range of "vetted" websites that might
be of use to these people. This is a bridge to getting them fully
on-line and confident using the web so they can enhance their work and
life opportunities.
The UfI has commissioned us (Designed for All) to undertake some
usability testing on this application; it is encouraging that UfI have
included disabled people and trainers of assistive technology
throughout its development.
Look forward to hearing from you
Neil
