Dear colleagues,
A training day reviewing the Freedom of Information Act and its impact on
the archives sector will be held at Dudley Archives and Local History
Service on the 16th October 2006. Representatives from four archives in
the West Midlands will discuss their experiences of working with FOI and
Susan Healy from The National Archive will be running a question and answer
session open to all delegates.
The course outline is as follows:
FOI: 1 year on
16th October 2006
Dudley Archives and Local History Service
This course will be useful to those responsible for implementing procedures
to deal with the FOIA and those who deal with responding to FOI enquiries
on a day-to-day basis. Speakers from four different record offices in the
West Midlands will talk about their experiences of developing strategies to
cope with the demands of the FOIA, the impact the act has had on their
work, the quality of support they have had from their parent local
authority and the procedures they have adopted.
The final session will be a 'question and answer' session with Susan Healy
from The National Archives, which will be your chance to discuss the FOIA
with an expert.
Course Aims
· To share best practice on dealing with the demands of the FOIA;
· gain an overview of the impact of FOI on local authority archives;
· to enable delegates to evolve new strategies and procedures for FOI
in the future;
· to enable those working with (but outside) archive services to gain
an impression of the impact of FOI on archives;
· to discuss your issues and problems relating to FOI with an expert.
