Hi,
I am currently working on an installation (most likely a furnace) at
Tel-Dor, Israel, dated to the Roman period. Except from one slag which
had high copper, tin and lead content, and what looks like kiln clay
lining, the evidence for its use is very scarce. However we detected
lead contamination within and around this installation which might be
the clue for its use.
it seems that the kiln had more then one episode, in which different
activities might have been practiced.
Therefore I am currently looking for references regarding furnace types
and shapes for both lead and copper/bronze production for comparison, as
well as information on lead contamination in Roman archaeological
sites.
Any starting point will be appreciated.
Thanks,
