An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious post-doctoral researcher to develop their research career as an applied statistician. You will join the research team at the Imperial College node of the ESRC National Centre for Research Methods (www.ncrm.ac.uk) to carry out leading edge research in statistical methodology applied to social and health sciences. It will involve developing statistical methodology for quantifying and reducing various types of biases that commonly arise in observational data. This work will include development of a generic framework for probabilistic sensitivity analysis for observational studies, to help quantify the impact of factors such as unmeasured confounding, informative dropout, measurement errors and so on. The project will use Bayesian hierarchical and graphical models as the basis for methodological developments.
You will have a PhD in statistics or a related quantitative subject. Strong skills in data analysis and the use of some of the major statistical packages is essential. You must also be able to communicate and collaborate effectively.
The post will be supervised jointly by Prof Nicky Best and Professor Sylvia Richardson and will be based St Mary's campus, Paddington. This group is at the cutting edge of applications and developments in Bayesian hierarchical modelling, spatial statistics, and statistical methods in epidemiology, genetics and social science. Bayesian methods for combining multiple Individual and Aggregate data Sources in observational studies (BIAS).
The post is full time and is available until 31 March 2008.
