Statistician / Data Analysis Expert
Salary depending on experience (£30k-£45k) + benefits + options
BlueGnome Ltd. is a rapidly growing bioinformatics company supplying high
value statistical software to pharmaceutical and biotechnology businesses,
universities and research institutes. BlueGnome is currently seeking an
energetic individual with outstanding statistical skills to develop next
generation data analysis solutions for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical
sectors.
The role:
- Based at our Cambridge (U.K.) offices, you will play an important role in
our world class statistics team.
- Your primary responsibility will be to research and prototype (in Matlab)
state-of-the-art statistical models and algorithms to solve high value data
analysis problems in the pharmaceutical industry.
- You will also work as part of a team to analyze customer datasets from
preclinical and clinical trials, for biomarker discovery and validation. You
will be expected to select or develop appropriate methodology to meet a wide
range of customer requirements.
- Application areas you will work on include metabolic profiling (NMR + MS),
transcriptomics and genomics (microarrays), and systems biology in a
pharmaceutical context. Mathematical challenges may include: feature
selection, nonlinear classification/prediction, modeling sources of variance
in data, time evolving networks, and data fusion.
- You will work with our product development team to directly implement or
advise on the implementation of numerical C++ code for the algorithms/models
you develop. Your statistical research will ultimately form part of leading
software.
The individual:
You will be a very bright, delivery focused individual with a strong
background in classical statistics, Bayesian statistical modelling, or
signal processing. Possessing a Masters level degree in applied mathematics,
or related subject, at a minimum, and ideally with a Ph.D. and industry
experience, you will have a demonstrable ability to take real world data and
independently develop and implement elegant and effective algorithms.
Experience working with life sciences data is a significant advantage. You
will be keen to work with a fun and energetic team, and will want to help
BlueGnome grow to become the leader in its field.
