An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for two researchers
within SAC’s Research Division with an interest in agriculture from the
fields of biology and mathematics or other relevant disciplines. Both
positions will be based in Inverness, Scotland and will be supported
initially through 5-year government funded (SEERAD) research projects to
help model the consequences of farm animal diseases at farm and regional
levels using epidemiological modelling.
Bio-Mathematical Modeller (R&D/AH/189/06) – You should have a postgraduate
qualification with a proven track record in research and be able to
demonstrate skills in mathematical modelling/epidemiology/statistics. The
post holder will have some management responsibility and liaise internally
and externally to develop disease models, including network methods, with
other researchers working on this project.
Disease Modeller (R&D/AH/190/06) - The successful applicant will be able to
demonstrate skills in mathematical
modelling/statistics/biology/epidemiology and have an interest in
agricultural research. You will liaise internally an externally to develop
disease models with other researchers working on these projects. Research
experience, publications and post graduate qualifications will be highly
advantageous.
An ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary research team and
understand the farming industry coupled with good general communication
skills is also essential. A current UK driving licence is essential as is
a willingness to travel.
The successful applicants will join an internationally recognised,
multidisciplinary team within SAC’s Epidemiology Research Unit.
The salary will be in the region of £28,350 - £31,296 per annum.
