TWO VACANCIES FOR RESEARCH FELLOWS/ASSISTANTS IN INFECTIOUS DISEASE MODELLING

Applications are invited for two research positions to work on the
epidemiology and control of HIV in Africa for up to 3 years. The
candidates will join the Mathematical Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases
group within the department. The group works on a variety of statistical
and dynamical models of infectious diseases. The department offers
excellent research facilities, including access to high-performance
computing, and a friendly and stimulating working environment. Both
projects will inform HIV prevention strategies using statistical analysis
and mathematical modelling.
Post 1: The appointee will work on a project funded by the Wellcome Trust
to investigate the epidemiology and control of HIV among adolescents in
four countries in sub-Saharan Africa. A strong background at MSc level or
above is required in one or more of the following areas: epidemiology,
statistics, demography, population biology, mathematics or physics (Ref RW4)
Post 2: The appointee will work on a project funded by the UK Medical
Research Council to investigate the epidemiology and control of HIV in
Uganda. A strong background at PhD level or equivalent research experience
is required in one or more of the following areas: epidemiology,
statistics, demography, population biology, mathematics or physics (Ref RW5)
For both positions experience in statistical analysis and/or mathematical
modelling and computer programming skills would be an advantage. Applicants
should be able to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary
research team.
Both appointments will be for up to 3 years, and will be made on the
School’s Research Assistant R1B or Research Fellow R1A scale according to
qualifications and experience, Post RW4: £23,026 - £29,453 per annum, Post
RW5: £23,026 - £32,984 per annum. Please clearly state in your application
which post you are applying for. If you are qualified and would like to be
considered for both posts, please state this clearly in the covering
