Postdoctoral researcher: approximation & inference for applied
stochastic processes (Aberdeen)
BioSS offers four rewarding appointments for individuals seeking a
challenging but intellectually stimulating career at the interface of
statistics and / or mathematical modelling with scientific research.
Post-holders will work alongside other BioSS researchers and consultants
to provide a quantitative underpinning for biological and environmental
research funded by the Scottish Executive, conduct applied strategic
research in statistical methodology and / or mathematical modelling, and
develop a portfolio of contract research and consultancy.
Two starting grades are available, with salaries in the ranges £23 -
£26K or £27 - £32K, plus public sector pension
Applicants must have a strong quantitative academic record, preferably
to PhD level, and show both potential and enthusiasm for the development
of innovative collaborations with biological and environmental
scientists on issues ranging from molecular bioinformatics to
landscape-scale ecological processes. Appointment to the higher grade
requires at least three years experience in applied statistics and / or
stochastic modelling, substantiated by a record of applied research
publications.
