RESEARCH FELLOWS AND RESEARCH ASSISTANTS IN EPIDEMIOLOGY, MEDICAL
STATISTICS OR BIOINFORMATICS
3 full time posts (or equivalent part time)
We are seeking to appoint three complementary posts in support of the
division's active research programme in cardiovascular, respiratory &
environmental, lifecourse & genetic, and primary care epidemiology. Each
appointment will be for 24 months in the first instance and is offered
as full time, but may be configured as a combination of two half-time
appointments.
Ref: 506/06 - Research Fellow in cardiovascular and diabetes epidemiology
The Research Fellow will use quantitative systematic reviews to define
the role of early life exposures (e.g. infant feeding pattern) on the
later development of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. We are
seeking an energetic epidemiologist or statistician to help conduct
reviews under the supervision of the project leaders. The post would
suit applicants with a Masters level qualification in epidemiology or
biostatistics or a closely related discipline, ideally with some
relevant postgraduate experience. The appointment will be on the RA1A
scale up to £32,395 pa inc depending on qualifications and experience.

Ref: 505/06 - Medical Statistician/ Bioinformatician
This new post will support a rapidly growing programme of work in
genetic epidemiology, based on a national DNA collection from the
British 1958 birth cohort. As a result of existing collaborations,
genotype data for over 1 million SNPs on 1500 DNA samples (up to 8000
DNAs for some SNPs) will be deposited at St George's during 2006. We are
seeking an enthusiastic medical statistician or bioinformatician to
assist with the management and annotation of this database and to
explore both methodological and epidemiological issues relating to the
genetic architecture of complex biomedical traits. The post would suit
applicants with a Masters level qualification in biostatistics,
bioinformatics or a related discipline, and some experience with
handling complex genetic datasets and/or online databases. Appointment
will be on the RA1B scale up to £24,682 pa inc depending upon experience
and qualifications.

epidemiology
This post will provide statistical support for the analysis of projects
relating to respiratory and air pollution epidemiology. We are seeking
an enthusiastic statistician who, ideally would have experience in
systematic reviews and meta-analysis and a working knowledge of STATA.
The post would suit someone with an MSc or equivalent qualification in
biostatistics or a related discipline. Appointment will be on the
RA1B/RAIA scale up to £28,863 pa depending on experience and
qualifications.
