Social segregation in schools - the uneven distribution across schools of
children from different socio-economic backgrounds - has seen much recent
discussion in England. The meeting brings together new evidence from four
research teams on different aspects of the subject: how segregation compares
to that in other countries, the relationship between segregation and choice,
measurement of egregation with indices, and the link between measurement and
multilevel modelling. The meeting will be valuable to anyone interested in
the empirical base of evidence for the current debate.
Whilst social segregation is an important issue which cuts across many
aspects of our lives, the examples discussed at this meeting will mainly be
drawn from education.
