SEMINAR
Some challenges in spatio-temporal stochastic modelling
Professor Gavin Gibson - Heriot-Watt University
Wednesday, 22 February 2006, 2pm
The Whittaker Room (211)
Abstract:
This seminar will describe recent research on the use of spatio-temporal
stochastic models to analyse experimental data on the spread of epidemics
in plant communities. A Bayesian approach is adopted and Markov chain
methods are used to overcome difficulties associated with the partial
nature of the observations. The question of model choice is addressed and
an approach to this which embeds classical tests within the Bayesian
framework is outlined. Some current challenges are discussed. Methods
will be illustrated using data from microcosm experiments carried out in
the Department of Plant Sciences at Cambridge University.
Following the talk, tea and biscuits will be available in Room 304
