A vacancy has arisen for a Research Assistant/Fellow in the Epidemiology and
Public Health group of the Peninsula Medical School. The group's research
involves population studies of age related disease, including Type II
diabetes. The group has special interests in genetic variation and the
health and well-being of older people (see
http://www.pms.ac.uk/pms/research/epidem.php), with a major programme
supported by the US National Institutes of Health.
This post will involve statistical analyses for conventional epidemiology
and for genetic association studies. The work will include analysis of data
from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) as well as from other
studies. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the writing-up
and publication of results.
This is a University of Exeter vacancy. The appointment will be for a period
of 3 years. This is a full-time appointment although consideration will be
given to applicants who are seeking a part-time appointment of at least 60%
of full-time.
Candidates should have at least a Masters degree with a substantial
statistical component, experience of working with large epidemiological or
social datasets, and knowledge of relevant statistical packages. An interest
in ageing, and in genomics and genetic epidemiology, is desirable. The level
of appointment will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
