UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON
M.Sc. in Statistics with Applications in Medicine
There are studentships available to follow this course in 2006-7.
A studentship pays course fees (at the UK/EU rate) and a maintenance
allowance of up to 12300 pounds.
The M.Sc. is a 12 month course which gives students knowledge of statistical
methods at an advanced level and experience of the application
of statistical methods. The course is designed to prepare students for
careers as applied statisticians, particularly in medical research, the NHS
and pharmaceutical companies, or for further research in statistics. Further
details are available at
http://www.maths.soton.ac.uk/graduate/stats/indexm.shtml
and an application form can be downloaded from
http://www.soton.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/pgappforms.html
Most students admitted onto the course have at least a second class honours
degree in mathematics with some statistical components, or a degree in
statistics with a strong mathematical support. Students with first
degrees in other disciplines who have a keen motivation to train as
statisticians, and whose degree programmes have equipped them to study
applied statistics at graduate level, may also be admitted to the course.
Any queries can be addressed to the admissions tutor, Jon Forster
([log in to unmask]).
