The Quality Improvement Section of the Royal Statistical Society is pleased to announce the following details of its first Quality Forum of 2007. PLEASE NOTE THE INCLUSION OF AN ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTION from Professor John Micklewright of the University of Southampton.
Quality Improvement Section
Thursday 11 January. Quality Forum: - 3.00pm to 5.00pm at the RSS (tea at 4.00pm).
Desperately Seeking Statistics: - The challenge for NGOs of finding quantitative support for qualitative research.
Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) need national and international data to support their campaigns and measure success. They do not usually have the resources to collect their own data on a big enough scale and have to rely on data collected for other purposes. This Quality Forum will address the difficulties inherent in such a situation, and possible approaches that the organisations might, and do, use to produce meaningful statistics for their purposes.
The discussion at the Forum may be of interest of statisticians from broad range of backgrounds . Comparisons between statistics compiled by non- government bodies and official statistics , and their relative strength and limitations and how they may be complementary can also be considered.
Speakers: -
Widney Brown or colleague (Amnesty International)
Stephen Joseph (Transport 2000)
Professor John Micklewright (University of Southampton)
