Research Fellow in Medical Statistics
Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, University of Birmingham
______________________________________________________________________
The University seeks an able Medical Statistician, ideally with at least 2 years experience working in health research, to work on methodological and health research projects. Applicants should have a postgraduate degree in statistics. The post holder will collaborate with other statisticians and health researchers on a number of projects, and have the opportunity to develop their own research interests and collaborations. There will be opportunities to contribute to teaching of medical statistics to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The Research Fellow will be part of the new Medical Statistics Group within the Department, led by Professor Jon Deeks. The Group was formed in May 2006 under the leadership of Professor Jon Deeks, and already has University, Department of Health and MRC funding for six statisticians and four other research staff. The group has strong research interests in the evaluation of diagnostic technologies, randomized and non-randomized studies, and meta-analysis, and is involved in methodological and health research projects in these areas. The group has close links with other statisticians working in the Medical School.
You should have a good first degree and a postgraduate degree in statistics (a substantial part of which relates to medical statistics), be fluent in key aspects of study design and analysis, and have some experience of working as a collaborator on health-related research projects.
