The Department of Statistics (www.stat.umu.se) is a part of the Faculty
of Social Sciences. We are in an expansive period with increasing
volume of teaching and participation in several externally funded research
projects. Research is mainly directed towards social science applications
and in particular observational studies, but also towards demography,
econometrics, epidemiology, and biostatistics. We are part of the research
environment "Ageing and Living Conditions", which received financial support
from the Swedish Research Council with 80 million SEK over a ten year period.
