Division of Epidemiology, Public Health and Primary Care
Department of Epidemiology and Public Health
Research Associate in Biostatistics
Salary: £23,560-£34,330
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious post-doc with a PhD in statistics or a related quantitative subject who is looking to develop their career as a biostatistician. The post is linked to an MRC funded project aimed at developing a strategy for analysing epidemiological data involving genetic, endogenous and environmental factors. The project is coordinated by Professor Sylvia Richardson and a team of statisticians and epidemiologists in the Department of Epidemiology.
The aim of the project is to capitalize on current statistical research on methods of analysis for large data sets in order to formulate and implement novel analysis strategies tailored for the paradigm of epidemiological, biological and genetic data arising from large cohort studies with biobanks. The methodological framework adopted will be that of hierarchical models and associated Bayesian computations. It is expected that techniques such as model-based clustering, variable selection and stochastic search for interactions will be used during the course of the project as part of the development of the analysis strategy. The methods developed will be tested on a large European cohort data set.
With a PhD in statistics or a related quantitative subject showing evidence of experience of modern statistical modelling you will have experience in the use of statistical software, preferably including some or all of the following software packages: R or S Plus, BUGS/WinBUGS, Latex and of writing computer codes for statistical analyses.
It is envisioned that at the time of appointment a contract of up to 36 months will be available to the successful candidate.
