The Statistics Division at St Andrews is one of three 5-rated Divisions in the
School of Mathematics and Statistics. The Division has been very successful in
recent years in generating research income and in widening the scope of its
teaching, and an expansion is now planned. Applications are invited for the
following posts:

will be responsible for building collaborative research links with the
Fisheries Research Services, an agency of the Scottish Executive Environment
and Rural Affairs Department that incorporates the Marine Laboratory in
Aberdeen, the Freshwater Laboratory in Pitlochry, and outstations throughout
Scotland. Research strength in applied Bayesian techniques and/or fisheries
stock assessment and management will be an advantage. Applications at
lectureship level will also be considered.
2. Academic Fellow in Statistics, salary 33101-40711 pounds. Applicants with a
strong background in a core area of statistics are sought. Candidates should
hold a Ph.D. in a relevant area of Statistics, have published in top Statistics
journal(s), show definite promise in research, be a committed teacher, and be
willing to develop collaborative research programmes with colleagues in the
School of Mathematics and Statistics. Subject to satisfactory performance, the
fellowship will lead to a permanent appointment at the end of the five-year
period.
3. Two Lectureships in Statistics, salary 33101-40711 pounds. The successful
candidates, with the help of colleagues, will build a new MSc degree programme
in Statistical Data Analysis. Experience in data mining techniques and/or

posts will become permanent subject to satisfactory performance and if the new
