Database Manager/Analyst

We are seeking a database manager to join the Paediatric Intensive Care Audit Network (PICANet), a national audit of paediatric intensive care based at the Paediatric Epidemiology Group. You will be responsible for ensuring a high level of data security and efficient processing of a complex dataset held in Microsoft SQL server. Providing comprehensive programming support to enable the production of routine and ad hoc reports, you will answer technical queries from data entry personnel in paediatric intensive care units throughout the UK and be responsible for implementing dataset changes and developing improved reporting and data validation algorithms.  You will also be involved in developing a proposed web-based interface for authorised individuals to input data online and to interrogate the national and local databases interactively. Within the Group there will be opportunities to work on other large population-based disease register datasets and to contribute to other research projects.  

The post is available for a fixed term of 12 months (with the possibility of extension dependent on funding). While the post is based on the University of Leeds campus, visits to other organisations may be required

University Grade 7 (£26,402 - £30,606 p.a)

Job summary

·	Manage a national database of confidential information on children receiving paediatric intensive care in the UK, implementing dataset changes and improving data validation algorithms.
·	Provide the necessary programming support to produce routine and ad hoc reports for internal use and for external organisations and process data for national, annual and bi-annual reports.
·	Develop web-based interface for users to interrogate their own data and comparative national data.

Main duties:

·	Ensure the database server, software and network connections are operational at all times.
·	Develop new/modify existing validation algorithms to produced enhanced data validation reports.
·	Maintain active monitoring of system and data security, updating software where necessary and ensure that there is an up-to-date security policy in place.
·	Provide the necessary programming support to output routine monthly statistics on data received together with monthly validation reports. 
·	Provide the necessary programming support to enable the production of bi-annual reports on paediatric intensive care activity for each unit.
·	Provide the necessary programming support to produce data for the annual national report on paediatric intensive care activity.
·	Provide technical support for the production of complex reports in relation to managing formatting and graphics.
·	Interrogate the database to produce ad hoc reports for internal use and outside organisations.
·	Ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act.
·	Carry out any other similar duties as directed by the PICANet principal investigators.
·	Present information using appropriate methods to explain to the audience when necessary.
·	Build effective links with internal and external contacts including PICANet principle investigators, clinical staff and NHS trust IT staff.
·	Keep up to date with technological changes and assess/recommend suitable upgrades or system changes in line with the projects needs.
