Genetic Epidemiologist/Genetic Statistician (vacancy ref. 12692)
___________________________________________
An experienced genetic epidemiologist/genetic statistician is required
to join the Genetic Epidemiology group led by Professor George Davey
Smith, which has a particular interest in Mendelian randomisation as
an approach to understanding aetiological relationships in
observational studies. The major focus of this post will be on the
Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC), although
there may be comparative work with other studies. A vast increase in
genotyping in ALSPAC is anticipated over the next five years. This
data will require cataloguing, checking, quality control,
documentation and linkage to the main dataset. The use of the
genetic resource and analysis of genetic data will require co-
ordination.
You will advise on proposals to genotype and utilise the resource, set
up automated procedures for handling data, advise on and support the
analysis of genetic data. You will also be involved in producing
papers reporting genetic epidemiology data. Analysis of genetic data
will require familiarity with specialist software for haplotype
construction and instrumental variables analysis. Bioinformatic
contributions to developing proposals for ALSPAC genetic
studies are required.
If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a
permanent contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant
research experience. Further information can be found at
