CSIRO is Australia's largest scientific research agency, delivering
outcomes of benefit to the Australian economy, society and environment
through excellence in science and technology and in the provision of
advice and services.
The Fishery and Aquatic Ecosystem Sustainability research group develops
statistical modelling and analytical technologies to map, monitor and
protect Australia's aquatic ecosystems and resources, as well as the
fishing industries that rely upon them. This is a co-operative effort
primarily involving marine scientists, industry representatives and
fishery managers, but requiring high-end and finely targeted research
contributions from statisticians.
We are seeking a postdoctoral statistician to work with the Australian
Centre for Applied Marine Mammal Science
(http://www.aad.gov.au/default.asp?casid=23095) in developing and
applying statistical methods to support whale research around Australia.
The tasks include collaborating with other statisticians and field staff
to design and implement aerial surveys of whales around Antarctica. The
successful applicant will join a Hobart- and Brisbane-based team of
statisticians working on marine mammals and marine resource management.
The position, which is available immediately, is based at the Australian
Antarctic Division (AAD) in Hobart.
