STATISTICIAN - Research Fellow Grade 7
Applications are invited for the position of research assistant/associate
in medical statistics within the Department of Primary Care and Population
Sciences, Hampstead Campus. The post is for 2 years and the successful
applicant will join a multidisciplinary team analysing data from a number
of data sets, notably the British Regional Heart Study which has followed
up over 7000 British men for 25 years; and the General Practice Research
Database, which captures computer-recorded information on patients from
hundreds of general practices since 1990. The purpose of the post is to
analyse reasons for the sharp decline in coronary heart disease mortality
in the UK, and is funded by the National Prevention Research Initiative.
Applicants should have a good first degree, with a postgraduate
qualification in statistics, (preferably in medical statistics), as well as
some experience of analysing medical research data. Interest in the
epidemiology of chronic diseases, as well as in the analysis of large,
complex datasets, would be advantageous. The ability to work unsupervised
as well as in collaboration with other members of a team is essential.
The salary is on the University Research Scale (Research Fellow Grade 7:
salary from £24,886 to £27,193 plus £2,400 London allowance) and this post
is expected to begin in April 2006 or soon afterwards. Starting point will
be dependent on age, qualifications and experience.
