Applications are invited for a Statistician to join the Institute's Mental
Health and Neurology Clinical Trials Unit (MH&N CTU). The unit was
established in 2002 with the aim of becoming a centre of excellence for
clinical trials, meta-analyses and related methodological research in
mental health and the neurosciences. It has close links with the
Biostatistics and Computing Department within the Institute of Psychiatry
and the MRC Clinical Trials Unit.
The Post holder will be expected to contribute to the statistical support
and collaborative functions of the Unit. In addition, the post holder may
participate in the teaching programme of the Biostatistics and Computing
Department. Applicants should ideally have a postgraduate qualification in
medical or applied statistics, and preferably one or more years of
experience working as an applied statistician. An interest in clinical
trials and experience with statistical packages such as SPSS, STATA and
S-Plus is essential. Enthusiasm and excellent communication skills are
essential as the post holder will need to become involved in the design
and set up phase of trials and considerable negotiation with research
teams is required to ensure trials are structured to the appropriate
regulatory and academic standards.
Starting salary in the range £ £26,200pa to £ 33,225pa (inclusive of
£2,323pa London Allowance), depending on qualifications and experience.
