JOB TITLE:   STATISTICAL CONSULTANT for International Solutions Provider, 
Switzerland, France or the UK -  Ref NF05 

LOCATION / AREA:  Europe / Switzerland / Zurich / UK South / UK South-
East / Hampshire / France

SUMMARY OF ROLE:  Global provider of data and text analysis solutions for 
industry leaders requires Statistical Consultants (SC) at their offices in 
Zurich, France or Hampshire.  The SC will provide key statistical skills 
to complement the existing specialist software development skills within 
the team.  In conjunction with the SDM the SC will be responsible for 
fulfilling a number of key client based assignments. He/she will work 
within a close knit team of IT and Statistical Consultants, all working 
either at the regional office or on client site. The SC will also be part 
of the Company’s European Service Delivery team together with other 
Consultants from across Europe. 

CLIENT INFORMATION:  Our client, headquartered in the USA with offices in 
Europe and distributors around the world, is a global leader in providing 
scalable data and text analysis solutions that enable better and faster 
decision making by integrating statistics into business processes.  They 
offer a contract research service to clients who require their expertise 
for innovative analytical projects.  Their solutions are used by the 
majority of leading companies in industry including pharmaceuticals and 
biotechnology who use the technology to streamline their operations and 
manage their business risk.  Use of the solutions makes it easier to 
integrate advanced statistical methods within existing processes thus 
enabling the user to reap the benefit of the rapid delivery of advanced 
analytics to decision making across the enterprise.  

JOB ROLE:   The Statistical Consultant will report to the Services 
Delivery Manager.  Key activities and responsibilities include:
•	Responsibilities to the client and the SDM delivering on-site and 
off-site solutions to the Finance industry. 
•	Taking on more of the statistical tasks and working closely with 
the IT Consultants and the client based teams. 
•	Performing client training and a number of Pre-Sales presentations 
and demos along side the sales person. A close working relationship with 
the Sales force, global offices and other corporate teams such as 
Development is a key requirement.
•	Must be prepared to be the sole Company representative on client 
site from time to time; although back-up will be available from the 
European team. 
•	Various tools will be made available to help the SC; using the 
consultancy framework and methodology is essential and it’s the duty of 
the SC to encourage others to use all available tools adhering to 
standards.  
•	Responsibility for time management and personal utilisation daily, 
ensuring that the Consultant Whereabouts Chart reflects their commitments 
for a rolling three month period.
•	Participation in business development tasks; this is particularly 
relevant while working on client site. 
•	With the SDM, agreeing a personal development and training plan. 
The SDM will also set individual utilisation targets which will be used to 
determine bonus payments and individual progress within the Services 
Delivery team.  
•	Having the ability to explain technical issues and problems to 
clients; this will, on occasions be on client site under pressure while 
delivering complex technical solutions. Specification and general 
documentation of delivered projects creation will also be necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
•	Ideally qualified to degree level (preferred PhD/MSc in 
Mathematics or Statistics) 
•	Statistical expert with consultancy experience on client site.
•	Worked to a PM/Delivery methodology or framework.  
•	Experience in systems IT development desirable.  
•	Knowledge of documentation creation.  
•	Previously experience of working with third parties would be 
extremely desirable
•	Solid knowledge of statistical modelling for the finance industry 
(portfolio optimization, risk management, time series analysis, etc.) and 
applications of statistical techniques
•	Solid background in statistics for the finance industry with a 
cross section of as many of the following skills as possible:
Statistical Skills
1.	Regression analysis
2.	Pricing
3.	Numerical optimization (S+Nuopt)
4.	Time series analysis
5.	Extreme value theory
6.	GARCH modeling
7.	Monte Carlo simulations
8.	Bootstrapping
Technical Skills
Although not a prerequisite of the role it would be advantageous for the 
applicant to have had exposure to project management within a technical 
environment. A solid background in IT with a cross section of as many of 
the following technical skills as possible is necessary: 
Programming
1.	S-PLUS, S+Finmetrics, S+Nuopt
2.	R, SAS, Matlab
3.	Eclipse Development (Eclipse Uls)
4.	Insightful Miner
Database Knowledge
1.	SQL Server
2.	MySQL
3.	Oracle

SKILLS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
•	Willing to expand technical skill sets
•	Quick and keen learner
•	Delivery focused with initiative, tenacity and drive 
•	Enthusiastic approach to the role with good presentation skills
•	Analytical thinker with the ability to understand issues, problems 
and concerns internally and externally; with the skill to address and 
resolve issues as they arise
•	Fluency in English and German (written and oral) is essential, 
French would be an asset.
