I have just inherited a first course in statistical inference, mainly
taken by mathematicians. The list of topics looks like estimation,
likelihood, testing (Neyman Pearson etc ) and a bit of Bayes.
The current book is Mathematical Statistics with Applications by
Wackerly and my impression is that the class don't buy it as it is too
expensive. However my trawl through Amazon has not come up with
anything better. Larsen, Hogg and Tannis etc are all more expensive.
If you have any suggestions as to books I would be very grateful.
