The are various poster style files available, easily found with google or CTAN. I have had good results with the classic Florida style:

Similar methods are here:

Subject: Examples of successful poster presentations
I'm considering submitting some research I'm conducting to the poster
session of a forthcoming technical conference. As I've not worked up a
poster presentation before, I'm hoping that Allstat subscribers might
point me to examples of poster presentations from statistics or
mathematics that they consider particularly effective.
Thanks.-Mark
