University of Nottingham
RCUK ACADEMIC FELLOWSHIP IN STATISTICAL GENETICS & BIOINFORMATICS
The University is delighted to announce the availability from October
2006 of an academic fellowship in the area of statistical genetics &
bioinformatics. The successful applicant will develop innovative
statistical methodology in the area of population and experimental
genetics as applied in the context of various quantitative
phenotypes,
such as the structure and function of the human brain in health and
disease.
The fellow will be based in the Brain & Body Centre (B&BC;
www.brainbody.nottingham.ac.uk); the Centre provides
inter-disciplinary setting for studies of environmental and genetic
factors that are shaping structure and function of the human brain
and
body. The fellow.s work will involve close interactions with other
B&BC members, as well as with colleagues in other departments at the
University. The main focus of our work is the dynamics of normal
development from infancy to adolescence in both humans and
rodents; it
centres on long-term consequences of early life environment and its
interaction with the individual.s genome.
The successful candidate is expected to have a strong background in
statistics or statistical genetics, excellent mathematical and
computational skills, an interest in biological systems and
ability to
work in a team of scientists with different types of expertise.
The fellowship is available for five years from October 2006. Subject
to the successful completion of a probationary period and the
appointee meeting the University.s criteria for appointment to an
academic post, the University will guarantee a permanent academic
position after the completion of the fellowship. Individuals who
already hold, or have held, a permanent University position, or an
offer of one, are not eligible to apply. Individuals currently
holding
a personal research fellowship or research grant are eligible.
Closing
date: 31/08/2006.
Salary will normally be in the range 22,286 - 30,002 per annum
depending on skills and experience, but a higher starting salary or
progression into a higher range may be possible for the right
candidate.
