Project Background
A cohort study carried out at Cardiff University has provided evidence that treating all childhood caries does not confer a substantially greater protection from developing caries in the permanent dentition over and above non-intervention. In this case it is of major interest to the public and the dental community alike whether current treatment practices are clinically and cost effective. The main aim of this study is to carry out a detailed multilevel statistical and economic analysis of an established cohort study and existing national database. The project will build on previous work to accurately model treatment history and caries outcomes at tooth and surface level.
