Post-doctoral Statistical geneticist - RS1A, 2 years

A postdoctoral position at the University of Oxford is available to develop
and apply methods for whole genome association (WGA) studies of complex
diseases. WGA studies offer great promise for unravelling the aetiological
basis of common diseases such as diabetes and obesity, but there remains an
imminent need to develop and apply new statistical methods to exploit the
emerging data.  At the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, University
of Oxford, Professor Lon Cardon's group is active in a number of leading WGA
screens, involving multiple traits, 10,000s of individuals and over 500,000
genetic markers.  Simultaneously, AstraZeneca is undertaking WGA screens
that provide unique data for direct translation to medical applications. A
senior postdoctoral position is available to work on developing and applying
new statistical approaches for analysis of these emerging data. The postdoc
will be positioned in Professor Cardon's group, with collaborative access to
some AstraZeneca datasets under the guidance of Dr Bryan Barratt.  The
appropriate candidate will have a strong applied statistics background and
excellent computing skills, with a post-graduate degree in degree in
statistics, bioinformatics, 
mathematical biology, genetic epidemiology/statistical genetics or a related
field.  Numeric programming skills are essential for the high dimensionality
and complex nature of the WGA datasets. The position is available
immediately and offered for 2 years in the first instance.
