Applications are invited for a medical statistician to join the Support Team
of the Cancer Research UK Medical Statistics Group (Director: Professor Doug
Altman) in Oxford.
The support team offer statistical input into collaborative research,
conducted mainly in the clinical units but also in the laboratories of
Cancer Research UK. Projects are all cancer-related and include phase II-III
clinical trials, prognostic studies, psychosocial data, systematic reviews
or cell proliferation data. The support team also offer statistical advice
to researchers, maintain a website ( <http://www.csm-oxford.org.uk/>
http://www.csm-oxford.org.uk/) and teach statistical courses to clinical and
laboratory staff. To ensure continual personal development of statisticians
in the support team, as well as self-learning, access to statistical
texts/journals and seminar attendance, statisticians are encouraged to
attend annually a course or conference. The support team consists of 4
statisticians, the Medical Statistics Group also has a research team of 5
statisticians. This Cancer Research UK funded group is part of the Centre
for Statistics in Medicine which employs a further 4 statisticians.
We have a vacancy for a support statistician which could be offered at
either of these two levels:-
Medical Statistician
The successful applicant would be expected to work with other statisticians
in the support team on several concurrent collaborative projects.
The successful applicant is likely to have a postgraduate qualification in
applied or medical statistics. Whilst not essential, 2 or more years
experience working as a medical statistician is desirable. This core-funded
post is available immediately on a Research Staff 1A grade (D31 £20,044 –
£25565 per annum depending on qualifications and experience, subject to
review from 1 August 2006 as part of the implementation of the National
Framework Agreement for staff in higher education).
Experienced Medical Statistician
The successful applicant would be expected to provide major input into a
number of concurrent collaborative projects as the sole or primary
statistician and would deal directly with the multi-disciplinary project
team. You would also be expected to project manage an annual course for
scientists or a workshop for statisticians, involving any, or all of,
organisation, development and teaching.
The successful applicant is likely to have a postgraduate qualification in
applied or medical statistics, and 5 or more years experience working as a
medical statistician. This core-funded post is available immediately on a
Research Staff 2 (D32 £27929-28829 per annum depending on qualifications an
experience, subject to review from 1 August 2006 as part of the
implementation of the National Framework Agreement for staff in higher
education).
