Queen Mary, University of London
School of Mathematical Sciences
College Studentship in Statistics or Probability
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship. Applicants should have a
good first degree in a subject containing a substantial amount of
mathematics or statistics or an MSc in Mathematics, Statistics or a
related subject. This is a re-advertisement and applications must be
received by me by the deadline of 30 June 2006.
The application form is available at
http://www.qmul.ac.uk/postgraduate/apply/index.html . Please send a copy
of the completed application form to me by email or fax (addresses below)
as soon as possible and by 30 June, along with an indication of which
project(s) are of interest to you. The full application form should also
be sent to the admissions office, as indicated on the form.
The studentship covers tuition fees at the level for home students and
living expenses of approximately £15,000 per annum. Non-EU students are
eligible, but will have to find another source of funding for the
difference between home and overseas fees (approximately £7,000 per
annum).
Possible projects (and supervisors) are on the following subjects, but we
are happy to consider other projects you might suggest in the areas of
combinatorial probability, design and analysis of experiments, Bayesian
statistics and sequential analysis.
Random strongly graphs having the n-e.c. property (Dr D. Stark)
Group-Sequential Response-Adaptive Designs for Comparing Several
Treatments (Dr S. Coad)
Design of experiments for two-channel microarrays (Professor R. Bailey)
Outliers in multivariate data (Dr L. Pettit)
Outliers in spatio-temporal modelling (Dr L. Pettit)
The School of Mathematical Sciences at Queen Mary has an international
reputation for research in statistics, probability and cominatorics, with
active research in probabilistic combinatorics, design and analysis of
experiments and surveys, Bayesian statistics and sequential analysis. We
also have strong links with other statisticians through the cross-faculty
Centre for Statistics. We have an active weekly seminar group in
statistics, joint seminars with other colleges in probability and
discussion groups in statistics and cominatorics.
