Statisticians:
Band 3 (1 post) - starting salary range up to £28,800
Band 4 (2 posts) - starting salary range up to £23,939
Location: Health and Safety Executive Merseyside Headquarters
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is seeking to recruit, on a permanent
appointment, one Band 3 and two Band 4 level statisticians to join its
Statistics Branch, part of the Executive's Corporate Science and Analytical
Services Directorate (CoSAS), based in its new Merseyside headquarters*.
HSE aspires to achieve a national workplace health and safety record that
is world leading. Statisticians play a vital role in supporting HSE's
objectives by providing statistical and epidemiological intelligence and
expertise about workplace ill health and injuries, and by providing
analytical support to strategic work programmes designed to reduce ill
health and injury incidence.
Join us and you'll play a pivotal role in analysing and interpreting data
from a wide range of sources - from large scale projects such as the Labour
Force Survey through to epidemiological research carried out to identify
hazards and characterise risks. As well as higher level statisticians with
a number of years' relevant experience looking for increased
responsibility, we're also interested to hear from graduates straight out
of university. It is work that demands integrity, commitment and the
ability to challenge accepted ideas. You'll also need to communicate at all
levels and use a variety of research methods and ideally should have some
practical experience of relevant specialist packages such as SPSS or Stata.
Above all though, you'll make things happen.
At the higher level of Band 3 statistician, you will take a more leading
role in the development of statistical and epidemiological sources and
analyses, developing and targeting programme activities, evaluating
programme performance, and providing technical advice to a wider range of
customers across and outside HSE.
In return you can expect a generous benefits package - which includes
flexible working, pension and generous holiday allowance - plus training
that's second to none.

being based at HSE's London office.
