The Statistics Division at St Andrews is one of three 5-rated Divisions
in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. The Division has been very
successful in recent years in generating research income and in widening
the scope of its teaching, and an expansion is now planned.
Applications are invited for the following posts:
1. Reader in Statistics, salary 41932-47914 pounds. The successful
candidate will be responsible for building collaborative research links
with the Fisheries Research Services, an agency of the Scottish
Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department that incorporates the
Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen, the Freshwater Laboratory in Pitlochry,
and outstations throughout Scotland. Research strength in applied
Bayesian techniques and/or fisheries stock assessment and management
will be an advantage. Applications at lectureship level will also be
considered.
2. Academic Fellow in Statistics, salary 33101-40711 pounds. Applicants
with a strong background in a core area of statistics are sought.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in a relevant area of Statistics, have
published in top Statistics journal(s), show definite promise in
research, be a committed teacher, and be willing to develop
collaborative research programmes with colleagues in the School of
Mathematics and Statistics. Subject to satisfactory performance, the
fellowship will lead to a permanent appointment at the end of the
five-year period.
3. Two Lectureships in Statistics, salary 33101-40711 pounds. The
successful candidates, with the help of colleagues, will build a new MSc
degree programme in Statistical Data Analysis. Experience in data
mining techniques and/or business statistics will be an advantage.
Initially for three years, these posts will become permanent subject to
satisfactory performance and if the new degree programme is successful.
