Salary range: Level B $65,225 - $77,456 p.a.

The Laboratory for Genetic Epidemiology is a multidisciplinary team of
genetic statisticians, genetic epidemiologists, mathematicians,
bioinformaticists, clinicians, molecular biologists and social
scientists, all committed to developing ways of investigating the
determinants of complex human disease and exploring ways of using
genetic information to improve human health. The group is tightly
integrated with numerous clinical and basic science groups in
Australia and internationally, and with industry.
The School of Mathematics and Statistics is one of the leading
departments of mathematical sciences in Australia. The Statistics
section has a high international ranking. It delivers lectures in
applied and theoretical statistics and probability to a wide range of
students. It also provides statistical consulting services to
industry, universities and the general community through the UWA
Statistical Consulting Group.
PRE-REQUISITES
1.PhD in Statistics (applied or theoretical), or equivalent academic
qualification in a related discipline
2.Some experience in university teaching of Statistics
3.Track record of research in Genetic Statistics or in the
applications of Statistics to genetic research
4.Demonstrated high quality of oral and written communication in English
5.Statistical accreditation (Gstat, AStat, CStat) or eligibility for
accreditation
6.Willingness to participate in statistical consulting activities
SELECTION CRITERIA
1.Evidence of outstanding research track record and interest in methodology
2.Experience in statistical consulting, or in the practical application of
statistical methods
3.Demonstrated high quality of interpersonal skills
4.Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary environment
The successful applicant will interact with researchers from diverse
biological, clinical, computational and statistical backgrounds, and
will play a key role in conducting advanced research into
biostatistical methods and in bringing new methods to bear on
important medical research problems.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to conduct research
in collaboration with internationally recognised experts in genetic
epidemiology and statistics and will be joining a young and dynamic
multidisciplinary team.
The appointee will also have an opportunity to build up an academic
teaching career. Applicants must have a PhD in Statistics (applied or
theoretical), or equivalent academic qualifications in a related
