2-year Postdoctoral Scientist: STATISTICIAN
AstraZeneca R&D Charnwood, Loughborough, Leicestershire
As one of the world's leading healthcare companies, innovation and discovery are part of everything we do. We turn good ideas into medicines, making a real difference to the quality of patient's lives.
We are seeking a statistician to develop predictive models that assess the liver toxicity potential of new therapeutic agents from high resolution imaging of cell-based assays. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role throughout the development of these models, from the design and quality control of the raw data, the design and exploration of imaging strategies to identify informative summary statistics and employing a range of multivariate exploratory and modelling techniques. You will also have opportunities to help shape the necessary database infrastructure for our projects as well as to provide statistical input to a range of other activities.
This is an area of high importance as drug-induced toxicity represents a major stumbling block that limits the delivery of new medicines to patients and the organ that most commonly exhibits drug-induced toxicity is the liver.
This two-year position will be based in the Advanced Science and Technology Laboratory (ASTL) at our Charnwood facility in Loughborough, UK and will have close links with AstraZeneca's Discovery global statistics community. The ASTL is a small research unit consisting of a core of multidisciplinary permanent members supplemented by post docs, PhD students and research collaborators from academia & industry. It is focussed on the investigation and development of new ways of working in drug discovery and development to improve productivity and attrition. The team evaluates new approaches for novel drug targets and projects as well as being involved in solving significant tasks in late stage development projects.
You will have a Ph.D. or Masters in statistics with demonstrated skill in statistical programming. You will also have the ability to interact with people at all levels, enjoy working as part of a team and have an innovative, flexible and enthusiastic approach to your work.
