We don't include the subject area at Nottingham - just PhD wording as you do. It would be difficult (and ultimately not very helpful or informative) to try to condense the thesis topic into a 'subject'.

Dear Colleagues,
At Queen's we issue degree parchments to graduating students at
Doctorate level which read;
'I hereby certify that (name) was admitted to the degree of 'Doctor of
Philosophy'. on the ....etc'.
We have received a number of enquiries recently from students asking why
the subject area of research cannot be included on the parchment.
Could I ask if any institutions include the research area on degree
parchments - Doctorate level?
Thank you for your assistance.
Regards.
