Hi Jane
That is interesting and probably better than the solution of the "mosquito"
http://www.jnemarketing.com/ which emits an unpleasant high pitched noise
audible to younger people, but not older people who hearing range has
reduced. It is meant for outdoor spaces though, not toilets.
I understand the current word for "cool" is "nang" but that as soon as older
people started using whatever the word is then the younger people choose a
new one anyway as the point is not to be understood by anyone who is not
nang!
Regards
Marcus

Metro in Leeds pipe classical music into their toilets apparently its not a
'cool' (sorry don't know the current term) place to be. So youngsters go
elsewhere. Regards Jane

Hi
I note your comment that blue lights " may also create an ambience for other
non toileting behaviour such as sexual contact."
In all seriousness has this been researched by UCL? What precisely are your
findings?

Our research on the inclusive design of away from home toilets has found
that blue lights in loos not only makes access for people with visual
impairments difficult, but also for people with urostomies /
colostomies, who need to be able to see that they have adequately
cleaned their stoma.
In addition children and young adults with autism also find them very
distressing and we have reports of children refusing to use toilets
fitted with blue lights and consequently soiling themselves.
Other studies of blue lights in toilets have found that whilst initially
they may deter drug use within the facility, they may also create an
ambiance for other non-toileting behaviour such as sexual contact.
If you would like any further information on this or any other aspects
of our research on away from home (public) toilets - please do not
hesitate to contact me.
